Croagh Patrick

We wonder--what was harder for Saint Patrick....spreading Christianity to the masses or climbing this mountain?! We're going to go with...climbing this mountain!

We had been looking forward to climbing Croagh Patrick for quite sometime. We arrived in Co. Mayo on Friday morning, ready for the challenge. We rented two walking sticks at the base and headed toward the heavens. About 1.5 hours into our accent, with approximately another 1-1.5 hours left to go, we looked at eachother, took in the height we reached together and decided to head back down.

No, we didn't reach the summit. Our eyes were bigger than our stomachs. We figured it would be a fairly easy task. Not so much. It was quite the physical challenge, but an awesome one to experience together. The climb was continually steep, with a very rocky path that didn't allow you to take your eyes off the immediate distance in front of you. When we did stop, the view of Clew Bay was breathtaking. Even though we missed our mark, we tried together and it was by far one of the best experiences we've ever had as a couple.
